The SuperGold card app and website allow you to access special deals throughout New Zealand. These deals can be claimed in person, by showing your SuperGold card, or can be accessed online through the SuperGold card app and website. You are not required to provide any personal information to use the SuperGold app or website.
However, you will have to provide some personal information if you want to:
- Get access to certain online deals
- Have your location displayed on the map
Accessing Certain Online Deals
Some online deals can be accessed by anyone who may have downloaded the app or visited the website. However certain deals may require you to prove your eligibility as a SuperGold card holder. To access these deals, you must enter your Social Welfare Number (found on the back of your SuperGold card) and date of birth into the app or website.
These two pieces of personal information are then sent to the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) for automatic checking. Once eligibility is confirmed, you can access all the available online SuperGold deals. If you successfully verify your Social Welfare Number and date of birth on the app, you won’t need to re-enter that information on that device, unless you delete and re-download the app. If you successfully verify your Social Welfare Number and date of birth on the website, you won’t need to re-enter that information during that session. However, if you exit the session and begin another, you will need to re-enter it to access certain deals.
Location and use of the map
The app and website contain a map that displays the location of providers. It will also display your location if you’ve enabled location services for the app or website. To display your location, your GPS coordinates are sent to MSD and then passed on to Google. If you’re connecting to the internet through a router, that router’s public IP address may also be sent to MSD and on to Google. No other identifiable information is sent, and MSD does not store the coordinates or IP address.
You have the option of disabling your location services for the app or website. If you do this neither MSD or Google will receive your coordinates or IP address, and the map you see will be centred around Britomart in Auckland. To disable your location services, go to ‘Settings’ on your device.
