Privacy Policy

This privacy policy applies to the SuperGold card app and website. The app and website allow you to access special deals throughout New Zealand. These deals can be claimed in person, by showing your SuperGold card, or can be accessed online through the SuperGold card app and website. You are not required to provide any personal information to use the SuperGold app or website.

However, you will have to provide some personal information if you want to:

  • Get access to certain online deals
  • Have your location displayed on the map

To find out about what different parts of the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) do with your personal information (such as Work and Income, StudyLink, Senior Services and Youth Service) please read our privacy notice.

Accessing Certain Online Deals

Some online deals can be accessed by anyone who may have downloaded the app or visited the website. However certain deals may require you to prove your eligibility as a SuperGold card holder.

To access these deals, you must enter your Social Welfare Number (found on the back of your SuperGold card) and date of birth into the website. If you are using the app you will be automatically taken to the SuperGold website when you try to verify your eligibility.

These two pieces of personal information are then sent to the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) for automatic checking. Once eligibility is confirmed, you can access all the available online SuperGold deals.

Location and use of the map

The app and website contain a map that displays the location of providers. It will also display your location if you’ve enabled location services for the app or website. To display your location, your GPS coordinates are sent to MSD and then passed on to Google. If you’re connecting to the internet through a router, that router’s public IP address may also be sent to MSD and on to Google. No other identifiable information is sent, and MSD does not store the coordinates or IP address.

You have the option of disabling your location services for the app or website. If you do this the map you see will be centred around Britomart in Auckland, or you can choose a default location which will be held locally on the device. To disable your location services, go to ‘Settings’ on your device.
